5.11.85 RESOLUTION REGARDING WHITE PAPER ON RAVI-BEAS AGREEMENT, 1981

Sir, I beg to move -
“Whereas a memorandum of settlement was signed between the Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi and late Shri Harchand Singh Longowal, President, Shiromani Akali Dal, on July 24th, 1985 covering inter alia, the aspects of interstate disputes on allocation of surplus Ravi Beas water and whereas that is the final Accord in suppression of all previous settlements in this regard, the previous Ravi-Beas Agreement, 1981 has become redundant. Accordingly, therefore, the White Paper released by the Government of Punjab on 23rd April, 1982 on the said Ravi-Beas Agreement also becomes redundant and irrelevant. Moreover, this House feels that the observations made in the said White Paper were not correct.
Now, therefore, this House resolves that the aforesaid White Paper be and is hereby annulled and rejected.”
